Eleven regular-season tournaments in six different states, including the annual Barona Collegiate Cup, highlight the 2009-10 San Diego State men's golf schedule released Wednesday by seventh-year head coach Ryan Donovan.

The Aztecs start the year with four tournaments in four different states during the fall campaign. The team opens the season at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the University of New Mexico for the second time in the last three years, Sept. 11-12. The Aztecs placed second overall at the same event in 2007.

Less than a week later, San Diego State will compete in the prestigious Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, Sept. 18-20, in Olympia Fields, Ill. A year ago, the same event included five of the nation's top nine teams and eight of the top 30 schools in the 2008-09 preseason Golfweek rankings.

The Aztecs round out the fall portion of the schedule at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in northern California, followed by the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, Nov. 2-4, on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii.

"We're very excited for our fall schedule," Donovan said. "Olympia Fields is one of the top five tournaments in the country and we're honored to be invited this year. It's always nice to go back to Hawaii - it's a great recruiting tool as well as a great finish to the fall."

After taking three months off, SDSU resumes action the first week in February at the Arizona Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., Feb 1-2. The Aztecs will then return to California for three straight events, the Battle At The Beach in Newport Beach, the USC Invitational in Westlake Village and the annual Barona Collegiate Cup that SDSU will play host to at Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside, March 25-26.

The team heads back to Arizona for the Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., before finishing out its regular season at the Stanford Intercollegiate (April 11-13) and the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational (April 17-18).

"This is the best (spring) schedule I believe in the history of our program," Donovan said. "We received invitations to a lot of Pac-10 events, which shows the strength of our team and where we've come. We're excited and anxious to compete against the top 25 teams in the country."

The 2010 Mountain West Conference championship is set for Omni Tucson National in Tucson, Ariz., May 6-8. The Aztecs will then look to make their 12th straight NCAA appearance, when SDSU plays host to the 54-hole, NCAA Regional, May 20-22, at Carlton Oaks Golf Course in Santee, Calif.

"We're very honored to have the NCAA regional in our backyard," Donovan said. "It will give us a little more opportunity to play the golf course in the spring and prepare our guys for the regional championship."

San Diego State returns nine players from last year's squad that received its 11th consecutive NCAA regional bid and finished 21st nationally in the final golfstat.com national rankings.
