IRVINE, Calif. - The San Diego State track and field team saw three personal records set and one season best established on day one of the Steve Scott Invitational on the campus of UC Irvine.
In the 5,000-meter run, Alma Escobar led all Aztecs with a personal-record performance of 17 minutes, 43.23 seconds to finish in sixth place. Michelle Martinez posted the 17th-fastest time after crossing the finish line in 19:14.39, while Alyssa Robinson logged a season best with her 19:44.84 effort.
In the day's only other distance event, the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kristin Glen came in fifth place with a time of 11:21.24 and Makenzie Mabry completed the race in 12:23.10.
Maria Rodriguez enjoyed a solid performance in the hammer throw after posting the top toss among collegiate athletes. The junior's best effort covered 160-05, which was good for third place overall. Jeanette McConnell finished in sixth place (157-07) and was followed by Andrea Martinez in seventh (151-04) and Robyn Guzman in 17th (130-08; personal record).
Odalmis Moreira ended the day as SDSU's top performer in the javelin after a throw of 108-03 (16th), while Danielle Lenore turned in her best effort of her Aztec career with a toss of 103-05 (18th).
In the long jump, Kai Wheeler finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place with a leap of 18-07.75 and Thoraya Maronsey completed her outing in 19th place with a jump that covered 17-08.25.
Action at the Steve Scott Invitational continues on Sunday on the campus of UCI.
