POMONA - Aztec sophomore Briana Johnson won the 100-meter hurdle title with an NCAA regional meet qualifying time of 13.87 Saturday at the Pomona-Pitzer Track and Field Invitational in Pomona, Calif.
Johnson edged teammate Annimari Korte for first place, as Korte came in at 13.92 to also log an NCAA regional meet qualifying effort.
After posting the top two times in NCAA Division I in the 400 meters a week ago, junior SDSU junior Nicole Stone participated in the 400 hurdles, coming in second place in 60.88, just missing the NCAA regional time by 0.06.
Several Aztecs recorded personal bests in their respective events on Saturday, as Rachel Williams ran a 4:43.43 in the 1,500 to end up 13th and Darien Buc completed the 800 in 2:15.76 to take ninth. In the field events, Maria Rodriguez threw a personal best 150-6 in the hammer, while Danielle Lenore placed 19th in the discus with the best throw of her career at 129-5.
San Diego State also got top-three finishes from Katie Vo in the pole vault (3rd - 11-1.75), Kai Wheeler in the triple jump (2nd - 38-5.50), Sheehan Mitchell in the high jump (2nd - 5-3), Laura Boggeln in the shot put (3rd - 41-9.25) and Jeanette McConnell in the discus (3rd - 158-5).
"This was somewhat of a low-key meet for us, coming off last weekend's (runner-up finish at the) Cal-Nevada championships," said interim co-head coach Jennifer Nanista. "We had some good performances and will be ready for our next big push starting next week in Tennessee."
Next week, San Diego State travels to Tennessee for the Sea Ray Relays on April 10-11 in Knoxville and the Boston-Moon Invitational on April 11 in Nashville.
