ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - San Diego State and New Mexico battled it out in Albuquerque in each schools' regular season finale. The Aztecs and the Lobos met to make-up a match that had been postponed earlier in the season. SDSU and New Mexico would each fight for the victory, with San Diego State ultimately coming out on top, 4-3.
In doubles action, Achim Ceban and Juan Gomez combined to take down Johnny Parkes and Miles Bugby in first doubles, 8-4. The Lobos' Ben Dunbar and Carl Ho proved too much for Giovanni Vaglietti and Andre Feliz, with the Aztecs' falling in third doubles, 8-4. The doubles point decision would come down to second doubles where Bartosz Golas and Tim Schulz van Endert could not hold off Graeme Kassautzki and Joe Wood, ultimately falling, 9-7.
In singles action, No. 125 Ceban picked up his second win of the day by upsetting 79th-ranked Parkes in first singles, 7-5, 6-1. Schulz van Endert would not lose for the second time on the day and took down Phil Anderson in fifth singles, 7-5, 6-3. In second singles, Gomez once again took a victory by defeating Kassautzki, 7-6, 6-4. Feliz attempted to claim the win for SDSU, but would come up short to Ho in sixth singles, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5. No. 122 Golas would also make a strong effort to aid in the victory, but ultimately fell to Bugby in third singles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The deciding match would be in fourth singles with Vaglietti coming back to defeat Dunbar and clinch the win for the Aztecs, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4.
With the victory SDSU improves to 14-11 on the season and 2-3 in MWC standings. Up next San Diego State will begin competition in the Mountain West Conference Championships on April 23.
