NORWALK, Calif. - San Diego State's Leanne Taylor posted a pair of NCAA West Regional qualifying marks at the Beach Invitational on Saturday at Cerritos College. The junior secured a regional berth in the shot put and posted her second qualifying effort in the discus at the one-day meet.
Taylor qualified for regionals in the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 11.00 inches, making her the first Aztec to secure a spot in the event at the regional meet this season. Her shot put performance was a season best by 1 foot, 6 inches. Taylor also had a discus throw of 167-08, which is a personal record, and the third-best in school history.
Annimari Korte, who posted a time of 13.95 on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays, bounced back on Saturday at the Beach Invite to finish the 100 hurdles in 13.88, which is faster than the regional qualifying standard.
Jessika Hornsby, meanwhile, ran a personal-best 11.96 in the 100 meters. The sophomore's time was .03 seconds faster than her previous personal record accomplished last year and .52 seconds better than her 2009 best.
In the 800 meters, Amy Brown led all Aztecs with a time of 2 minutes, 17.13 seconds, and was followed by Michelle Martinez's season-best time of 2:24.84. Freshman Bianca Saad logged a personal record after crossing the finish line in 2:28.65.

In the throws, a pair of Aztecs in Odalmis Moreira and Robyn Guzman enjoyed personal-best days. Moreira had a javelin throw of 110-01, which eclipsed her old PR of 103-08, and Guzman threw the hammer a 122-06, a personal record by more than three feet.
In the pole vault, Katie Vo cleared 11-7.75 to establish a new season best and finished in 11th place. Her clearance was a 2009 best by four inches.
