WALNUT, Calif. - San Diego State senior Karoline Koehler won the 100-meter dash with a record-setting performance on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays. The senior, who won the long jump last week at the Sea Ray Relays, posts her second win in as many weeks at a meet "Where the World's Best Athletes Compete."
Koehler, the reigning Mountain West Conference co-athlete of the week, won the 100 meters with an NCAA West Regional qualifying time of 11.60. A week ago, Koehler ran a wind-aided 11.46, but Friday's performance without the help of wind gives her a legal personal record and the sixth-fastest time in SDSU outdoor track and field history.
In the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Annimari Korte came up just .12 seconds short of winning the event and settled for second place with a time of 13.95. Korte, who has already secured a spot at the West Regionals, was .03 seconds shy of posting another regional qualifying time.
Sophomore Jessika Hornsby, who was competing in the 200 meters for the first time in two weeks, logged a top-10 finish by coming in ninth place with a season-best time of 24.31. Hornsby bested her previous season best by .06 seconds accomplished in the preliminaries at the Cal-Nevada Championships back on March 29.
Junior Kai Wheeler finished in first place in her triple jump open flight, but it wasn't enough to win the event. Wheeler covered 38-11.75 with her jump and finished in seventh place, which marked her sixth top-10 triple jump performance of the season.
In the open of the hammer throw, senior Andrea Martinez ended the competition in fourth place in her flight and in 17th place overall with a season-best toss of 161-09. Her effort was seven inches better than her previous 2009 best. Jeanette McConnell, meanwhile, ended her day with a throw that covered 151-06.
In other Mt. SAC Relay action, Kristin Glen finished the 5,000 meters in 18:28.42, Darien Buc posted a 1,500-meter time of 4:43.92 and Michele Dannhausen recorded a javelin throw of 136-04.
