SAN DIEGO - The No. 5 San Diego State water polo team recorded its 20th win of the season on Sunday at the Aztec Invitational. The Scarlet and Black took down Brown, 10-6, in the morning contest then returned to the pool in the afternoon to defeat 19th-ranked Indiana, 9-6. With the victories, the Scarlet and Black's record improves to 20-5 on the season.
In the morning match against the Bears, senior Anna Gonzales tallied a team-high five goals, while freshman Kimmy Keach recorded three scores of her own. Senior co-captain Jenna Schuster and classmate Erinn Greenwood each provided one score in the win. Freshman goalkeeper Kelly Campoli anchored the defense for the Aztecs.
In the afternoon contest against the Hoosiers, Gonzales again led the Aztec attack with three goals, while Schuster recorded two tallies. Greenwood, juniors Melissa de Jonckheere and Ronni Gautschi and sophomore Brooke Vessey each connected once. Campoli held down the defensive effort in front of the cage.
San Diego State will host two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation games this week at the Aztec Aquaplex. The Scarlet and Black will host top-ranked Stanford on Wednesday, March 25, at 4 p.m. On Saturday, March 28, SDSU will welcome No. 2 USC for a 1 p.m. showdown.
