Aztecs to Have Two-Match Week
The San Diego State men's tennis team will face the San Diego Toreros and the UC Irvine Anteaters this week. The Aztecs (2-4) will meet the Toreros on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. PT and the Anteaters on Thursday, Feb. 19 also at 2 p.m. PT. The Aztecs' most recent match was the doubleheader home opener where SDSU fell to No. 6 USC, 6-0, but rebounded later in the day to defeat UC Riverside, 7-0.

Scouting the Toreros
San Diego is coming off a win over Cal Poly, 6-1, at the West Tennis Courts at home. With the victory on Saturday, the Toreros are 3-3 on the season. No. 50 San Diego boasts two nationally ranked players in No. 70 Tom Wolff and No. 92 Charl Wolmarans. San Diego's Tom Hagedorn is in his 13th year as head coach of the Toreros.

Series History vs. San Diego
The Aztecs have taken 13 out of 22 meetings between the two San Diego schools. Last season SDSU defeated the Toreros, 6-1, to add to its winning record.

Scouting the Anteaters
UC Irvine is coming off a 4-3 loss to UNLV on Friday. With the 69th-ranked Anteaters being forced to postpone two matches due to weather they are 0-3 on the season.

SDSU owns the series record against the Anteaters, 8-4, with the last victory for the Aztecs coming in 2007.

Schulz van Endert Enjoying Solid Start to 2009
San Diego State sophomore Tim Schulz van Endert is having a strong start to the 2009 season going 3-2 in singles in 2009. Schulz van Endert's two losses come at the hands of two nationally ranked players: No. 78 Nick Meister of UCLA and No. 64 Abdullah Magdas of USC.

Aztecs in the Polls
San Diego State is currently ranked 56th in the nation according to the first FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released Feb. 10 by the Intercollegiate Collegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The Coaches
Gene Carswell is in his 11th season at San Diego State and sixth as head coach of the Scarlet and Black. In his six seasons at the helm, the Aztecs' mentor has compiled an overall record of 74-47 (.628), while guiding SDSU to three straight Mountain West Conference regular-season titles from 2005-2007. During that stretch, the native San Diegan led the Aztecs to a 17-0 league mark en route to earning three consecutive MWC coach of the year accolades. Prior to his present duties, Carswell was an Aztec assistant for five years from 1998-2003, earning a pair of ITA regional assistant coach of the year honors in 2001 and 2003.

2007-08 Review
SDSU finished the 2008 dual-match campaign with a 13-12 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the Mountain West Conference.

Last Time Out With The Aztecs
San Diego State hosted a doubleheader home opener on Feb. 6. The Aztecs dropped their first match to No. 6 USC, 6-0. In the second match of the doubleheader, SDSU rebounded to take down UC Riverside, 7-0. San Diego State swept both doubles and singles action in the victory.
