AZUSA, Calif. - The San Diego State track and field team won seven events, including the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs and the distance medley relay, on Saturday at the APU Indoor Qualifier at Azusa Pacific Stadium.
"I was pleased with how we competed today despite not having our whole team here due to health reasons," interim co-head coach Jennifer Nanista said. "It was good to see where we are as a team going into the Mountain West Conference Championships in a couple of weeks."
For the second straight outing, Rachel Williams emerged with an event victory, this time winning the 5,000 with a lifetime-best 17:50.00. A week ago, Williams won the 10K at the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque, N.M.
Cross country teammate Kristin Glen was also victorious in the 3K after she crossed the finish line in 10:25.00. Meanwhile, the SDSU distance medley relay team of Darien Buc, Nicole Stone, Amy Brown and Michelle Martinez took home the DMR title with a time of 12:41.39.
Stone was also a member of the winning 4x400 relay team that included Amber Waddell, Leigh Rutherford and Jamie Ferguson. The quartet won the race with a time of 3:58.57.
In the sprints, sophomore Jessika Hornsby won her first event of the indoor season with her winning time of 25.33 in the 200-meter dash. Other winners for San Diego State include Dana Jensen in the pole vault (11-9.75) and Tamara McMillan in the weight throw (54-0.50).
In addition to the taking home the weight throw championship, SDSU finished second, third, fourth and fifth in the event.
