SDSU Women's Basketball Postgame Quotes
Cox Arena - December 30, 2008
San Diego State vs. No. 4/4 Texas

Aztec head coach Beth Burns

On the game:
"We did this for each of us and all of us and this is the highest ranked team I have ever had the opportunity (as a coach) to be successful against. It is exciting for us as a team and a program. This is something that this team will have forever and ever."

On the team's game plan:
"I talked to our team about rebounding and told them it was the only way we could beat this team. (Freshman) Candace Chambers was huge off the bench when Paris (Johnson) got in early foul trouble. She used her big body to keep them off the boards and block shots. She had a lot to do with that rebounding effort."

On the team's guard play:
"Q (Quenese Davis), Coco (Davis), Jené (Morris) - their quickness in passing lanes and jumping out on screens [were keys to our success]. I think they did a terrific job."

On what the win means to the program:
"Lakeysha Wright was one of the first players to text me this morning. She played here and graduated in 1995 and she told me to remind our team that nothing great is accomplished without enthusiasm. It is exciting to know that Aztecs from 15 years ago and on were here together [for this win]."

On what the team learned from in earlier losses to ranked teams this year:
"We play in a great league and if you want to be great, you have to play great. You can't be afraid of it. I was disappointed in the way we played at UConn [in late November]. I wasn't disappointed that we lost, but in the way we played. But we learned from it. I'll say it again, Q (Quenese Davis) has been so good from day one. If you have a great point guard who runs your team, then you are going to get better and better. Q has just been fabulous."

On the final minutes of the game:
"We were trying to score in the paint the whole game, but they are so big. But our last three buckets were all lay-ups because Q [Quenese Davis] did a great job with the ball and found people open underneath. It is exciting for us - for our confidence. You can tell them they can do it, but they have to do it. And we did it. We will be able to reference this forever and ever."

"This is as good as it gets. I thanked the team in the huddle. I told them I have been in a lot of big games, but I believe this is the highest ranked team I have ever had the opportunity to beat. I think it is only fitting that it happened at San Diego State."
