SAN DIEGO -
San Diego State-Fresno State Postgame Quotes in PDF Format
San Diego State Head Coach Steve Fisher
Opening Statement:
"This was a nice win for us after a hard loss on Tuesday. Fresno State is extremely athletic, although a young team. We have to keep at it and keep playing better."
On what he liked best about his offense:
"I liked their willingness to move to the ball, share the ball, and give it up quickly and freely."
On Kyle Spain's play:
"What Spain did better than he's done in the past is rebound the ball. We've talked about him working on that. Tonight he had five offensive rebounds and six defensive rebounds for 11 total. He leads by performance and the way he plays."
San Diego State Senior Forward Kyle Spain
On how he felt the game went:
"I guess it went pretty well. Looking back at the last couple of games and the stats, I made an effort to really go get the rebounds. I had probably four combined in the last two games, so that was my main focus."
On what he wants to accomplish personally this season:
"Definitely being more of a leader, but that's not really my focus. My focus is the team and us getting victories."
On having more three-point field goal attempts:
"Coaches and players are helping me get those open looks. I've been working on my shot lately."
On what the team is missing being without Lorrenzo Wade:
"Vocal leadership. Whether it's a pat on the back or vocal criticism. Lorrenzo did a great job of trying to lead this team. That's missing from Lorrenzo."
San Diego State Senior Forward Ryan Amoroso
On winning by a large margin:
"It was good for our team morale. To show ourselves we can bounce back even after a tough game against Arizona State. We did a lot of good things today, but obviously there are a lot of things we can improve on. Overall we did a pretty good job together."
On the team's half-court defense:
"Compared to the way we played against ASU, we weren't nearly as effective at half court. We did however take them on transition pretty fully. As for a grade defensively, I wouldn't give us more than a C-. You have to set standards high and that's something our team has to learn. We need every guy to step up. When we get all our guys to do that, which we're doing great right now, it makes a good collective team effort."
Fresno State Head Coach Steve Cleveland
On the game:
"Their physical play and our inability to execute early offensively, in terms of setting screens and secreen catches and making good passes and decisons... They took us out of what we wanted to do. We were pretty discombobulated for about 20 minutes and we could not get the ball where we wanted to get it. And when we did, we didn't have great success. ... They were defensively stronger in almost every position.
"In the second half we did a lot more to the high post to release the pressure and got better shots and we had a better flow of the game. But certainly we just got in a loss of compsure mode and the conversion defense was like we were in shock for 20 minutes. And we gave up easy baskets. We had poor conversion defense and they are a physical group and you have to block out. You have to be there. They have good size and good athleticism. But they basically man-handled us for 40 minutes. I thought we did a better job in the second half in terms of keeping our composure. This group, the whole entire team wasn't good enough, wasn't strong enough and we have to learn from this."
