San Diego State wins its season opener for the fourth consecutive streak, its longest since a similar four-game win streak in lidlifters from 1993-97... The Aztecs are now 8-2 under Steve Fisher in season opening games... Fisher is 15-3 in lidlifters as a head coach... In the Division I era, the Aztecs are 21-18 in season openers and 56-32 all-time.
*GOOD START
San Diego State scored the first nine points of the game... Defensively, the Aztecs held UCSD scoreless for the first 6:20, and forced the Tritons into 0-for-8 field goal shooting before scoring.
*TAKING ADVANTAGE
SDSU forced 15 turnovers and turned that into 19 points. In comparison, the Tritons forced eight Aztec turnovers and were only able to convert that into three points.

*TIM SHELTON - Returned to the lineup after missing the final 29 games last season due to knee surgery... Gay and Tim Shelton (twice).
*KYLE SPAIN - Reached double figures for the first time this season and the 35th time in his Aztec career... San Diego State moves to 28-7 when he scores at least 10 points in a game.
*BILLY WHITE - Scored in double figures for 15th time of his career... In those games, the Aztecs are 11-4. ... Grabbed a team-best eight rebounds to lead the team in rebounding for the 11th time in his career.
*D.J. GAY - Tallied 10 points to reach double figures in scoring for the ninth time in his career. ... Went 2-for-3 from three-point distance and has made at least one three-pointer in 13 straight games dating back to last year.
*RICHIE WILLIAMS - Had a game-high three assists to lead the team in the category for the 46th time in his career.

Tim Shelton became the 12th freshman to start a season-opening game for Steve Fisher. However, Shelton, who earned his year of eligibility back after missing 29 games due to injury, also started the season opener last season.
