SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Stephanie Bagan, a pole vaulter from Granite Bay, Calif., has been voted to the Mountain West Conference 10th Anniversary Women's Indoor Track and Field team, the league announced Wednesday evening. Bagan, a two-time all-MWC indoor choice, was selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and online fan poll.
As a freshman in 2007, Bagan won the MWC pole vault title by clearing 13 feet, 5.25 inches to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Her performance was a personal best, the 11th-best in the nation and ranked third in school history. At the conclusion of the meet, she was awarded the conference's outstanding performance award. Later that season, Bagan, who was one of three freshmen at the meet, traveled to nationals and finished in 14th place.
Last season as a sophomore, Bagan successfully defended her pole vault title and continued San Diego State's dominance in the event after she cleared 13-8.50, to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. Her personal-record performance was two inches better than her closest counterpart, 3.25 inches than her winning vault in 2007 and second best in MWC history. At the national championships, Bagan garnered All-America honors for the first time after she finished in eighth place with a clearance of 13-5.25.
