With the 2007-08 academic year coming to a close this past week, the San Diego State athletic department received several honors for its work in the classroom over the last 12 months. Below is a list of just some of the achievements:

2007-08 Academic Review

Statistics
- Student-athletes graduate at a higher rate than the general SDSU student population (84 percent)

- Ranked No. 1 in the Mountain West Conference in African-American football student-athlete graduation rate

- 218 scholar-athletes in 2007 (3.0 cumulative GPA or 3.2 semester GPA) - Over 2200 scholar-athletes honored since 1994

- Team GPAs over 3.0 since fall 1999 - women's cross country (11 times), women's tennis (11 times), volleyball (five times), men's tennis (four times), women's crew (two times), water polo (two times), women's golf (once), women's soccer (once), softball (once).

- Highest ever team GPA in fall 2007 - baseball, men's basketball, men's golf, water polo

- Graduation Success Rate Report (1997-2000) - Women's tennis (100 percent), volleyball (92 percent), men's golf (91 percent), women's soccer (90 percent), women's swimming (87 percent), men's soccer (84 percent), water polo (83 percent), rowing (82 percent), football (70 percent, 2nd in MWC)

- Laboratory for Diversity In Sport: Male African-American graduation rate; Title IX compliance

- SDSU athletic community service participation: MS, Juvenile Diabetes, Cancer walks, Ronald McDonald House fundraiser, visits to local and military hospitals, visits to elementary schools, feeding the homeless, building homes for Habitat for Humanity, holiday clothes and food drives, Shop-With-A-Jock, blood drives, YMCA Adopt-A-Family, Row for the Cure, Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, mentoring at Encanto Elementary School, campus cleanups
