No. 18/21 SDSU Softball Plays Host to Utah, Brigham Young This Weekend
The San Diego State softball team looks to continue its winning ways when it plays host to conference foes Utah and Brigham Young this weekend. The Aztecs (29-10, 2-0 MWC), who are ranked No. 18 by ESPN.com/USA Softball and No. 21 by USA Today/NFCA, will take on the Utes (19-18, 2-2 MWC) in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday before meeting the Cougars (26-13, 3-1 MWC) at 6 p.m. Friday and again at 1 p.m. Saturday.

- After starting out the conference season at 2-0, SDSU will face fellow league-leader Brigham Young (3-1) and third-place foe Utah (2-2) this weekend. See A Look at Utah and Noting Brigham Young, pages 2-3.

- After sweeping UNLV over the weekend, the Aztecs moved up a spot in both national polls. SDSU is now ranked 18th by ESPN.com/USA Softball and No. 21 by USA Today/NFCA. See Movin' on Up..., page 3.

- The Aztec pitching staff is ranked No. 11 in the nation with a 1.19 ERA. In addition, SDSU's .744 win-loss percentage is 19th in the nation. - Through 39 games, the SDSU pitching staff is 29-10 with a league-low 1.19 team ERA, despite arguably playing the toughest competition of any Mountain West school. The trio of Ross (18-8, 0.89 ERA), and freshmen Brooke Petty (5-0, 1.24 ERA) and Samantha Beasley (6-2, 1.95 ERA) have combined four 14 shutouts, including seven against 2007 NCAA tournament teams.
