LA JOLLA, Calif. - The San Diego State distance runners and jumpers highlighted the second and final day of the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego on Saturday. Four personal records were set in three distance races and four others were established in three jumping events.
Andrea Norton enjoyed a banner day as she logged personal records in both the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs. The freshman ran a lifetime best 4 minutes, 59.54 seconds in the 1,500 to finish in 25th and then clocked in with a time of 10:50.13 in the 3,000 to place ninth. In both races Norton was the Aztecs' top finisher.
In addition to Norton, freshman Sara Beyers ran a personal-low time of 10:54.30 in the 3,000, while sophomore Lindsay Barajas completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:49.59 to set a new personal record.
SDSU had a pair of Aztecs establish PRs in the high jump after both freshman Natalie Peterson and sophomore Wendy Bohn cleared 4 feet, 9.75 inches.
A different pair of Aztecs also set new personal bests in the long jump and triple jump. Sophomore Amber Waddell recorded a distance of 17-4.25 in the long jump, while freshman KristaBelle Kiper leaped 36-6.75 in the triple jump.
San Diego State returns to action on May 3 when the Aztecs travel to Irvine, Calif., for the Steve Scott Invitational.
