A Look Ahead
The Aztec track and field squad will travel to Seattle, Wash., for the Husky Classic on Saturday, Feb. 16. The one-day meet is San Diego State's final tune-up before competing at the Mountain West Conference Championships at the end of the month.

The single-day event is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. PT at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility.

Next week, SDSU will have the week off in preparation for the league meet in Colorado Springs, Colo. The championships, which are being hosted by the Air Force Academy, are set to run from Feb. 28 to March 1.

Kaye Named MWC Athlete of the Week
Junior Decontee Kaye was named MWC Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The Hayward, Calif., native earned her second career weekly honor after provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the long jump at the Bronco Invitational in Nampa, Idaho. Kaye set the SDSU indoor record in the long jump on the first day of competition with a leap of 20 feet, 2.25 inches, while competing in a field that included 10th-ranked Arizona State. She improved on her previous-best mark by 1 foot, 2.25 inches to surpass former Aztec record holder Lisa Domico's mark of 19-10.25 established in 1999.

In addition to setting a new school record, Kaye posted the top long jump in the conference and the 21st-best distance nationally, according to TrackShark.com.

The junior also set a personal record in the 200-meter dash for the second week in a row with a time of 24.67 seconds, which is the seventh-best effort in school history and seventh-fastest among all league competitors this season.

Glen Sets Standard in 5,000
In just her second track meet at San Diego State, junior Kristin Glen etched her name atop the 5,000-meter run list in the school record book at the Bronco Invitational.

Glen, who also competed for the Aztecs in cross country during the fall, finished third overall with a time of 18 minutes, 42.37 seconds, to set the new standard on Montezuma Mesa. It was just the second time overall and first time indoors that Glen had competed in the run.

The SDSU newcomer surpassed former record holder Marie Nilsson's time of 18:53.60 in 2004 by more than 11 seconds.

Making Long Impressions
The San Diego State long jumpers made quite an impression last weekend in The Gem State as the Aztecs had four of the top seven performers in the event.

Decontee Kaye led the way with her NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 20-2.25, which was also a school record and was followed by Karoline Koehler in fifth place.

Koehler just missed provisionally qualifying for nationals by three centimeters and her 19-11.00 effort would have been a school record if not for Kaye's effort.

Finishing behind Koehler was Shana Watson and Kai Wheeler, who both leaped personal-best distances of 19-5.25 and 19-2.50, respectively.

The quartet enter the weekend owning four of the top five long jumps in school history (Kaye - 1st, Koehler - 2nd, Watson - 4th, Wheeler - 5th).

Relay Debut
The second day of competition at the Bronco Invitational marked the debut of the Aztec relay team and they showed a glimpse of what to look forward to this year.

Relay veterans Sherraine Pencil and Mandy Upuu, who led off and anchored the race, respectively, welcomed two new members in freshmen Kyanna Thomas and Jessika Hornsby to the group.

The four started off strong, keeping pace with Arizona State's team through the first two laps, but lost a little ground on the third leg and crossed the finish line second.

SDSU clocked in with a mark of 3:45.92, a little over two seconds after the Sun Devils (3:43.04). Their effort, however, entered the school record book as the sixth-fastest time in program history.

Olafsdottir Makes Appearance
After missing the season-opening meet at the Mountain T's Invitational due to illness, junior Kristin Olafsdottir took part in her first meet of the year at the Bronco Invitational.

At the end of the two-day event, Olafsdottir posted the team's top season mark in two events (60-meter hurdles - 58.37; high jump - 5-4.25) and the fourth-fastest time in the 400 (58.37) and the fifth-best distance in the shot put (32-10.25).

Frequent Runner Miles
A week after winning the one-mile run at the Mountain T's Invitational with a time of 5:39.48, Darien Buc shattered that mark at the Bronco Invite by running a pesonal-best 5:13.65.

Despite finishing in fifth place, the sophomore entered the SDSU record book fifth all-time in the event just behind former cross country teammate Lisa Naucler (5:13.41).
