San Diego State Quotes

Head Coach Beth Burns

On the game:
"We knew the game was going to have great intensity, you would hope it always would. I didn't know we were going to open the game with as many nerves as we did. But as I told them if you guard people you can weather those kind of storms. With the way we were turning the ball over we felt we were in a great position at halftime with no one having more than two fouls.

"You can tell by the intensity of that game. Those were two teams with mutual respect. I hope (USD) win their league and go to the tournament and I hope they feel the same way."

On USD:
"We have such respect for (USD point guard) Amanda Rego that we knew the less time the ball was spent in her hands the better off we would be. We just wanted to make them work in the full court. They really run a great halfcourt offense as you can see when our pressure failed us. So we really wanted to make it a fullcourt game."

On the success of the team:
"The key to our success is that we have such a young interior. We also play to our strengths and we feel we have good depth in our perimeter. (Allison) Duffy is a real weapon in that she can play any style of game - she can play a power game or a speed game."

On freshman forward Allison Duffy:

"The thing about (Allison) Duffy is that she will take and make a big shot or a big free-throw. Some people just have that. Although she doesn't have game experience, she has a year of practice. She has a year of being on the bench and kind of watching and feeling it out. I think she has real good instincts."

Freshman forward Allison Duffy
On her on court relationship with fellow freshman Paris Johnson:

"We work everyday in practice so we're starting to get a good feel for each other, so it's working well."

Senior forward Shanna Demus

On the win over USD:
"It's special. I'm happy to be a part of a program that is rising. To go out with a win over San Diego is exciting. I love it."

On the team's turnaround:
"We worked hard. It's all worth it. It's kind of sad to work hard and win three games, then it was nice to be 12-15. To start out this season 7-1 it's like we can see what's working and what (coach Burns) is doing is working."
