MALIBU, Calif. - Sophomore Michael Beron, of the San Diego State men's tennis team, swept USC's Andrew Piotrowski in straight sets on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket at the ITA West Regional Championships in Malibu, Calif.

Beron, a native of San Diego, Calif., took down the tournament's No. 9 seed and will face Arizona's Jay Goldman on Sunday.

In the first set, Beron was able to come away with the 7-5 victory and returned in the second set to outlast Piotrowski, 10-8.

Beron is scheduled to take the courts at 10 a.m. against Goldman on Sunday at Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. If Beron is successful, he will return for his semifinal match at approximately 12:30 p.m.
