SAN DIEGO - SAN DIEGO STATE Women's Soccer NEWS CONFERENCE QUOTES
AZTEC ATHLETICS CENTER
OCTOBER 16, 2007

Head coach Mike Friesen

On having a nationally televised home game against BYU:
"It is always good for the program to be nationally televised against a BYU team that was No. 14 in the country and is now No. 19. It's good exposure for our team that doesn't always get a lot of media coverage. It gives our recruits a chance to see us play, especially the ones that can't travel to San Diego to see us play. It is always good to have the coverage."

On going up against BYU goalkeeper Erika Woodbury:
"She presents a big challenge. At times this year we have struggled to score goals. If we can create chances in front of a quality goalkeeper like her (Woodbury) and make sure we are following up on rebound chances, we'll put ourselves in a position to win the game. They are a complete team. Not only do they (BYU) have a good goalkeeper, they also have a great defense that doesn't give up a lot of quality chances."

On SDSU freshman goalkeeper Aubree Southwick: "She's a quality goalkeeper and the exciting thing about her is that she has a lot of things she can improve on. I'm excited about her future. Like BYU, we have a quality backline that has not given up too many quality chances. The one's we have given up, Aubree has done a good job of keeping out of the net."

On SDSU defenders sophomore Millie Allen and junior Ali Lokanc:
"Both Millie and Ali are extremely physical. Those two have been a little nicked up this year because they are willing to put their bodies in places on the field where others don't. We also have senior Ashley Young and freshman Laura Bahno who are willing to do the same. Our defense has done a great job all year of giving us a complete effort. Soccer is a tough game to score goals so when you have a group playing as hard as we do, it makes it even more difficult."

On matching last season's win total with six games remaining:
"We've talked all year about this being a team game and not an individual game which makes it really exciting to match last season's win total. Even though our talent might not be at the same level as last year, this group really has done a great job of playing for each other and with each other. That type of mentality has created a lot of good win opportunities that we have been able to take advantage of like against Arizona on the road."

On Sunday's game against Wyoming:
"Every year it's easy to get up for the games against the likes of BYU and UCLA, but its harder to get wins against teams like Wyoming that we match up well with. They are always a challenge and will be again especially coming off a nationally televised game on Thursday. We need to make sure we bring the effort on Sunday. We have done a good job this year of going after teams that we match up well with and bringing a high level of energy."
