SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State swim team held its second intrasquad meet at the Aztec Aquaplex on Tuesday, with the red team coming out on top, 131-103. In the 14-event meet, four Aztecs were double winners in individual events on the afternoon.
The meet got underway with the 400 medley relay, and the red team of Katie Smith, Christine Graham, Noelle Holland and Kayley Oka captured the top spot.
The red squad continued to rack up points as both Smith and Brittany Daly finished ahead of the pack in two events. Smith picked up victories in the 100 and 200 backstroke, while Daly captured the 500 and 1,650 freestyle. Christine Graham and Ana Dowell added first-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and the 100 butterfly, respectively, while Dowell also had a second-place finish in the 100 free.
Freshmen Gina DiDomenico and Stephanie Henderson led the way for the black team, as they each recorded two wins. DiDomenico took top honors in the 200 free and the 200 individual medley, while Henderson captured the 50 and 100 free. Classmate Noelle Holland won the 200 fly and Kendal Twilling captured the 200 breaststroke, while Nino Metsar added three second-place finishes for the black squad.
The Aztecs concluded the day with the 400 free relay. Although the event was not included in the scoring, the senior group of Dowell, Smith, Graham and Daly were the top finishers.
The Aztec swimming and diving team will open its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27, when it hosts Mountain West Conference-foes Air Force, Colorado State and New Mexico at noon (PST). The meet will be held at the Aztec Aquaplex, marking the first competition for SDSU at their new home facility.
