SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's swimming team held its first Red-Black intrasquad meet at the Aztec Aquaplex on Friday afternoon. In the 16-event competition, the red squad came out on top, 144-137.
Sophomore transfer Nino Metsar was a bright spot for the red team, as she captured three events, including the 50 breaststroke, 200 free and 400 IM. Also taking home first-place finishes for the red team were Brooke Vessey (50 back and 100 fly), senior Ana Dowell (50 fly) and sophomore Jessica Morrill (100 breast).
The black team had five different swimmers finish ahead of the pack, including senior Katie Smith. The 2006 first-team all-Mountain West Conference performer captured the 100 and 200 backstroke. Junior Rosalie Raymond also helped out the black squad with first-place finishes in the 500 and 1000 free. Juniors Katie Leahy (100 free), and Kendal Twilling (200 breast), along with freshman Noelle Holland (200 fly) rounded out the squads top finishes.
SDSU will hold its second Red-Black intrasquad meet on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Aztec Aquaplex at 2:30 p.m. The Aztecs will then kick off their regular season when they play host to Air Force, Colorado State and New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 27 at noon PT in the Aztec Aquaplex.
