SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head women's swimming and diving coach Mike Shrader announced the hiring of Brendon Bray as an assistant coach on Wednesday. Bray brings three years of coaching experience to Montezuma Mesa and will begin his duties immediately.
"Brendon brings experience, enthusiasm, excitement and an incredible work ethic to this program," said Shrader. "We are truly blessed to have him at SDSU."
Bray comes to San Diego State from the University of Washington, where he was the men's and women's swimming assistant coach the past three years. During his time at UW, Bray helped coach multiple NCAA qualifiers and NCAA championship scorers. He also served as the recruiting coordinator and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Huskies' swimming program.
Bray also had a stellar collegiate career himself, as he competed on the swim team at Washington for three years before beginning his coaching career. He was a senior national qualifier and ranks in the top-10 on the UW all-time list in the 200 backstroke. A native of Reno, Nev., Bray was a four-year letterwinner and an All-American at Reno High School.
"I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with Coach Shrader," said Bray. "I have known him for the past eight years and I really respect his team philosophy.
"I am excited to be living in San Diego and I want to help raise the level of this program to where we are competing for Mountain West Conference championships."
Bray received his bachelor's degree in economics in 2005 and his master's degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership (2007) from the University of Washington.
