SEATTLE -
SDSU Head Coach Chuck Long
On the team:
"Well, I will say that I appreciated the guys fighting at the end. There at the end, they were fighting and that's a good sign, especially since they're young. We've got to go through the growing pains with some of the young guys, but we have to do it."

On Washington State:
"Hats off to Alex Brink and his receivers. He threw the heck out of the football. It was really a clinic out there."

On the SDSU defense:
"We knew we had a young secondary going in. we'll get better. We're getting a lot of playing time right now and we'll get better. It's our first game and tomorrow is another day."

SDSU Quarterback Kevin O'Connell
On the offense:
"I think people saw some flashes of what our offense is capable of when we don't shoot ourselves in the foot.

"We need to be able to come back from plays and thrive off the different changes in the game and stay constant.

On the game:
"We had some personnel issues going in and out of the huddle and, for whatever reason, we had some things going on but that's just the first game. This stadium was built for noise and it got loud, but we need to be able to handle it.

On the team:
"You just grow as a football team. We had a lot of young guys play today and we saw some guys grow up a little bit. Some guys figured themselves out over the course of the game and that's just where we're at right now.

"Offensively, we moved the ball well for the most part and just had some problems with penalties. It's just a matter of cleaning things up as we go along. We have a football team with a lot of fight in there and we've just got to roll up our sleeves and go to work."

SDSU wide receiver Darren Mougey
On the game:
"We were beating ourselves. This team can play; we have playmakers all over the field. We're a good football team, we just kept shooting ourselves in the foot. It was frustrating, but we got another opportunity next week against Arizona State. Washington State is a good football team and you can't take anything away from them. We definitely beat ourselves out there a few times with mental errors.

"This is a great football environment and it was louder than we expected. You know, we had some center change issues but those are things we'll have to talk about. They had a great environment and a good football team and they made some things happen.

"I think we just slowed ourselves down. The first half we came out, we were fired up and we were making some good plays. We are an explosive team and we can make things happen fast but it is hard to do that if you keep shooting yourself in the foot and committing penalties."
