The second to last in a daily series with GoAztecs.com, get to know freshman, defensive back Dey Juan Hemmings.
GoAztecs.com: How was your first week of classes?
Hemmings: My first week of classes went well. I was here for summer school, so I kind of knew my way around campus. I also knew some of the students from football and from EOP (Educational Opportunity Programs), so I felt comfortable.
GoAztecs.com: What was it like playing at Qualcomm Stadium last Saturday?
Hemmings: It was a great experience. The stands weren't filled up, but I still got the feeling of playing in a big stadium. It was really fun.
GoAztecs.com: What is your greatest high school football memory (at Rialto High)?
Hemmings: My greatest high school football memory would be starting at outside linebacker my sophomore year when we played Kaiser High School, who was ranked by the Los Angeles Times.
GoAztecs.com: What will you miss most about your hometown?
Hemmings: I will just miss being at home and knowing everyone in my town.
GoAztecs.com: What is your favorite thing about San Diego so far?
Hemmings: I love the weather. The weather is great in San Diego. It was raining a little bit last night, but now it's a beautiful day.
GoAztecs.com: Do you have any hobbies?
Hemmings: I like to go camping and fishing. I also just like to hang out, eat and sleep.
GoAztecs.com: What is your favorite meal?
Hemmings: That would definitely be my mom's home cooked tacos, beans and rice.
GoAztecs.com: Who is the comedian on this Aztec football team?
Hemmings: Everyone here is funny, but I would have to say (defensive back) Raymond Patterson is one of the funniest guys on the team.
GoAztecs.com: Other than football, what is your favorite sport?
Hemmings: I would say track and field. I ran the 100 and 200-meter as well as the 4x100 and 4x400 relays in high school.
GoAztecs.com: What type of music do you like?
Hemmings: I listen to all types of music. It really depends on what kind of mood I'm in at the time. I'll listen to slow music, rap and just about everything.
GoAztecs.com: Do you have a favorite artist?
Hemmings: No, I like a lot of different music so I don't really have a favorite artist.
GoAztecs.com: What is your favorite television show?
Hemmings: I would have to say Fresh Prince of Bel Air is my favorite show.
GoAztecs.com: Do you know what you want to major in at San Diego State?
Hemmings: I am majoring in kinesiology.
GoAztecs.com: Do you know what you want to do after you graduate?
Hemmings: I would like to be a sports trainer at a gym, like 24 Hour Fitness. Eventually, I would like to open up my own sports therapy business.
