Aug. 20, 2007

The 12th in a daily series during fall camp, get to know freshman and San Diego native, Vincent Camarda.

GoAztecs.com: How has your experience at San Diego State been so far?
Camarda: It has been really good. I am just a newcomer here, so I am trying to get the playbook and all the reads down. Everyone, the coaches and the players, have been really great to me. It has been a great experience so far.

GoAztecs.com: What was your most memorable high school football moment?
Camarda: My most memorable moment was when I broke the school record for career interceptions (with 15).

GoAztecs.com: Being from the San Diego area, are you a Chargers fan?
Camarda: Yeah, I have been a fan all my life.

GoAztecs.com: Who did you look up to as a football player when you were growing up?
Camarda: I actually looked up to John Lynch. He is a safety for the Denver Broncos. I like to emulate how he plays and try to be like him as much as I can.

GoAztecs.com: Did you play any other sports in high school (at Cathedral Catholic)?
Camarda: I played baseball for a little bit, but I knew I could go somewhere with football so I decided to stick with it for three years.

GoAztecs.com: Had you played baseball as a kid?
Camarda: Yeah, I played baseball, soccer and basketball when I was younger, but football was just the sport I chose to go with.

GoAztecs.com: What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies?
Camarda: I like to go fishing with my cousins. I just like to catch a bunch of fish and hang out with my family. We usually go down about 40 miles south to Mexico or just off the La Jolla coast.

GoAztecs.com: Who is the best player you went up against in high school?
Camarda: I would actually have to say my teammate, (running back) Demetrius Sumler is the best player I knew in high school. I was lucky enough to play with him. He is a freshman at Colorado now.

GoAztecs.com: How did you spend your summer?
Camarda: I actually spent most of my time at San Diego State. I was here for 31 days during the summer. Right after high school, I got in here and started working hard so I could get into the system early. Other than that, I made it down to the beach a few times.

GoAztecs.com: Were you taking any summer classes while you were here?
Camarda: No, I'll start classes in the fall semester. I was just working out here in the conditioning program over the summer.

GoAztecs.com: What helped you decide to play at SDSU?
Camarda: It was a really easy decision since all of my family is here. I also love the coaches and you have to stick with a staff that you like. My teammates are great as well and hopefully I'll get the opportunity to play if not this year, then next year.

GoAztecs.com: Have you decided on a major yet?
Camarda: I am actually going to do criminal justice and see how that goes.

GoAztecs.com: Do you know what you want to do after you graduate?
Camarda: No, I have no idea right now. Hopefully I'll figure it out in my time here.
