SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head football Chuck Long announced Friday that sophomore quarterback Kevin Craft has left the Aztec football program.

"Kevin has decided to pursue other opportunities at another school," Long said. "We have enjoyed coaching him and all of us in the program wish him well."

Craft spent the last two seasons at San Diego State. He was a redshirt in 2005 and entered the 2006 campaign as the third-team quarterback. Injuries at that position pressed him into action last season, as he played in nine games and made five starts. For the year, he completed 69-of-121 attempts (57.0 percent) for 737 yards, with four touchdowns and six interceptions.

Following spring practice this April, he was listed as the second-team quarterback on the depth chart behind senior Kevin O'Connell, whose 21 career starts at the position rank as the sixth-highest total in SDSU's Division I history.

Long indicated that for the time being, junior Darren Mougey will be listed second on the depth chart at quarterback. Mougey, who started three games last season at quarterback and has played in 10 career games at the position, will also continue to be listed as the starter at wide receiver.

In addition to O'Connell and Mougey, the Aztecs currently have three other quarterbacks on the roster - redshirt freshman Kelsey Sokoloski, walk-on redshirt freshman Josh O'Brien and true freshman Ryan Lindley.

"This makes for a great opportunity for some of younger quarterbacks currently in our system." Long said.
