The 49th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team received an invitation to compete in the 2007 NCAA Team Tennis Championships Tuesday morning. The Aztecs will be making their 20th appearance in the annual 64-team tournament, squaring off against No. 17 Florida State in the opening round on Saturday, May 12, at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the campus of UCLA. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. PDT.

"This is a tribute to our team's perseverance and hard work," head coach Peter Mattera said. "We fought back from a lot of adversity earlier this season with all of our injuries and put together a great second half. We're thrilled to be headed back to the tournament."

SDSU earned an at-large berth after finishing its season with a 14-11 record and a tie for second place in the Mountain West Conference at 6-2. The Aztecs are making their third consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament and fifth in six years. SDSU's 20 all-time tournament appearances is tied for 11th in NCAA Division I history with Arizona and Indiana. Last season, the Aztecs suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of UCLA at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.

SDSU will lock horns with a Florida State team that posted a 15-7 mark overall and went 8-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Seminoles hold a 2-1 lead in the all-time series, including a 4-3 victory at Aztec Tennis Center in their last meeting in 2005. The Aztecs are led by senior Alesya Vidov (Moscow, Russia) and junior Eliska Krausova (Prague, Czech Republic), who both garnered all-MWC honors in singles competition during the 2007 campaign.

The winner of the SDSU-FSU clash will take on the victor of the UCLA-Quinnipiac match on Sunday, May 13, at 1 p.m. PDT for the right to move onto the NCAA Finals, which are being held in Athens, Ga., May 18-22.
