CLAREMONT, Calif. - The San Diego State track and field team competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational contested at Strehle Track in Claremont, Calif., on Saturday. In all, six Aztecs posted season-best performances with three of them coming in the 1,500-meter run.
Freshmen Makenzie Mabry, Stephanie Armstrong and Jessica Walker all had career performances beginning with Mabry's 1,500 clocking of 4 minutes, 56.73 seconds. Her effort is the fifth-best of the season among all Aztecs and is more than 10 seconds faster than her previous best of 5:06.85. Armstrong, meanwhile, shaved five seconds off her lifetime best, crossing the finish line in 5:01.78 and Walker was eight seconds faster than her season-best mark with a time of 5:05.12.
Another pair of first-year Aztecs recorded solid days as freshman Amber Waddell completed the 200-meter dash in 26.02, eclipsing her previous campaign-best time of 26.13, while freshman Jordan Cabral cleared 10 feet, 6.00 inches in the pole vault to establish a new SDSU personal record.
Junior Raquel Butler also got into the act as she leaped 16-3.25 in the long jump to break her previous season-long effort of 13-9.75, accomplished at the Aztec Invitational on March 17.
In other San Diego State track and field news, the Aztecs did not compete on the final day of the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, due to inclement weather.
SDSU will return to action this week when it participates in the Mt. SAC Heptathlon, April 11-12, and the Mt. SAC Relays, April 13-15. Those not competing in the Mt. SAC meet will travel to Long Beach, Calif., for the Long Beach Invitational set for April 14.
