WALNUT, Calif. - The San Diego State track and field team wrapped up final-day action at the Mt. SAC Relays on Sunday in Walnut, Calif. The Aztecs posted six NCAA regional qualifying performances, eight season bests and two event victories at the prestigious meet contested at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
The pair of SDSU wins came in the 4x100 relay and the 100-meter dash. The quartet of Sherraine Pencil, Shana Solomon, Alicia Lowery and Koehler registered their second NCAA regional qualifying effort of the season after crossing the finish line ahead of the pack in 45.70 seconds. Later in the day, Solomon went on to place first in the 100 with a clocking of 11.80 and Pencil came in third at 11.90.
In the 200, SDSU was not victorious, but put forth equally impressive efforts as Solomon (23.72) and Pencil (23.81) both qualified for the regional meet and set new lifetime bests. Meanwhile, Koehler (24.40) and Nicole Stone (24.76) competed in the race and set new seasonal lows.
San Diego State also received solid performances in the triple jump as Decontee Kaye and Shana Watson both notched NCAA regional qualifying distances. Kaye leaped a wind-aided 42-5.25, while Watson measured out at 41-1.00.
In the 400 open division, Mandy Upuu ran a season-low time of 55.56 to come in fifth place and then ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay that qualified for the regional meet with a clocking of 3:41.42. Running with Upuu in the race was Pencil, Stone and Solomon.
The Aztecs return to the track April 20 when they compete at the UCSD Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.
