Aztec Softball Begins Defense of Mountain West Conference Title; Plays Host to Brigham Young, Utah This Weekend
The San Diego State softball team begins its defense of the Mountain West Conference regular season title this Thursday when it hosts Brigham Young in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at SDSU Softball Stadium. The first game will be broadcast nationally on CSTV (Channel 319 on Cox Digital) and can be followed via gametracker on the Internet at www.goaztecs.com.
The Aztecs, who have won 10 of their last 11 games and are receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball national poll, are off to an impressive 23-12 start, including four victories against nationally ranked opponents.
Following the doubleheader with the Cougars (18-14), San Diego State will take on Utah with a single game each on Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (noon), respectively. The Utes, who travel to UNLV for a doubleheader Thursday, are 19-12-1.
Last season, the Aztecs won the conference regular season title with a 15-3 record, just one game ahead of Brigham Young (15-3). Utah was third at 10-8.

- Heading in to MWC play, SDSU has won 10 of its last 11 games, including three against nationally ranked teams or teams receiving votes in a national poll.

- Aztec junior Christina Ross was named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday after throwing her first career perfect game in SDSU's 8-0, five-inning win over Brown on Wednesday. It was her second weekly award this season and third of her two-year Aztec career.
- San Diego State currently ranks first in the MWC in both team batting average (.305) and team ERA (1.69). Utah, the Aztecs' Friday and Saturday opponent, is second in both categories (.294 and 2.18).
