COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Eliska Krausova has been named the Mountain West Conference Co-Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. It is the first weekly honor for Krausova, who shared the award with UNLV's Elena Gantcheva for the period ending March 26.
Krausova helped the Scarlet and Black to a 3-0 start in MWC play with wins over Air Force (7-0), Wyoming (6-1) and Colorado State (5-2). The Aztec junior recorded a perfect 4-0 mark at No. 1 singles and a 3-1 record at No. 1 doubles, defeating three straight MWC opponents for the first time in her career. Earlier in the week, she clinched the team's winning point in a 7-0 shutout of non-conference adversary Washington as SDSU snapped a five-match losing streak to Pac-10 opponents.
Krausova began the week with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Washington's Mathilde Cor. The Prague, Czech Republic, native then kicked off conference play with successive victories over Air Force's Lauren Wilson (6-0, 6-1), Wyoming's Karolina Rowinski (6-0, 6-2) and Colorado State's Emily Kirchem (6-4, 6-3).
In doubles competition, Krausova combined with senior Alesya Vidov, posting wins over Washington's Cor and Joyce Ardies (8-4), Air Force's Kelly Morgan and Christine Abayan (8-6) and Wyoming's Rowinski and Andrea House (9-7). Krausova has won six of her last eight singles matches and four of six outings in doubles play since joining forces with Vidov on Feb. 9.
San Diego State returns to the court this weekend when it travels to Fort Worth, Texas, March 31-April 1, for the second rotation of MWC action. The Aztecs will tangle with No. 41 TCU on Saturday before squaring off against No. 58 New Mexico in a neutral-site battle on Sunday.
