The San Diego State women's track and field squad continued to build upon its early outdoor season success Saturday in a challenging field at the USC Trojan Invitational at Loker Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. The Aztecs logged four NCAA regional qualifying times/marks in the non-scoring meet, which included the likes of USC, Michigan, Texas A&M and Washington State.
"Going into spring break, (this meet) was a good indication of where we're at and where we're going," Aztec assistant coach Jennifer Nanista said. "We're looking forward to continuing to improve heading into the Cal-Nevada Championships."
Sophomore Karoline Koehler (Erfurt, Germany) claimed the team's only event title, winning the long jump with a leap of 20-4.50, which qualified her for the NCAA regionals. Koehler's mark ranks second in SDSU history, trailing only Lisa Domico's school record of 20-5.75.
Koehler also logged a sixth place in the 100 meters (11.98) and a lifetime best 24.71 in the 200 meters (12th), while running the anchor leg on SDSU's third place 4x100 relay, which finished in an NCAA regional qualifying time for the second straight of week of 45.64.
The Aztecs swept the second through fourth place positions in the pole vault, highlighted by junior Monica Pacas' (Atascadero, Calif.) runner-up performance with an NCAA regional qualifying height of 12-6.
Sophomore Shana Solomon (Long Beach, Calif.) logged a pair of top-five finishes in the 100 and 200 meters, including a best of 24.13 in the 200-meter event. Classmate Nicole Stone (Ontario, Calif.) was fifth in the 400 with an NCAA regional qualifying time for second straight meet of 54.55. Senior Lisa Naucler (Ljusdal, Sweden) posted a season-best in the 1,500 meters, coming in with a time of 4:36.99 to take third.
In the throwing events, sophomore Michele Dannhausen (Sierra Madre, Calif.) logged personal bests in all three of her events. Dannhausen recorded a personal best by more than three feet in the shot put with a mark of 41-4.50, which put her second in the B division. She also was third in the javelin B division with a throw of 125-1.00 and seventh in the discus 137-0.00.
San Diego States next meet is the annual Cal-Nevada Championships, March 30-31, in Fresno, Calif.
