MALIBU, Calif. - The San Diego State swimming and diving team recorded a pair of victories Saturday afternoon as it defeated both Pepperdine (86-54) and Cal Ply (110-30) in a double dual meet at the Raleigh Reynolds Memorial Pool in Malibu. The wins evened the Aztecs record at 8-8 on the year.
Senior Kimberlee Frith was one of SDSU's leaders on the day as she won a pair of events, and then swam the anchor leg on the final relay that recorded the team's best time of the season. Frith took first place in both the 100 free (53.61) and 200 free (1:54.56), and was a member of the 400 free relay team (along with Ana Dowell, Kyla Power and Emily Parker) that won in a time of (3:37.82). She also took third in the 50 freestyle (24.70).
Brittany Daly was the Aztecs' other double winner, capturing the 500 free (5:06.85) and 1000 Free (10:27.49). Both of those times represented season bests for the junior distance specialist. In between her two wins, Daly took second in the 200 butterfly with a personal season best mark of 2:13.87.
San Diego State also got first-place finishes from Katie Smith in the 200 backstroke (2:07.29), Ana Dowell in the 200 butterfly (2:10.92) and Jessica Morrill in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.55). Smith also had runner-up finished in both the 100 backstroke (1:00.09) and 200 individual medley (2:12.62) while Morrill took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.86).
Elsewhere, Rosalie Raymond had a pair of second-place results as she finished behind Daly in both of the distance freestyle events. Her 5:15.74 in the 500 and 10:43.16 in the 1000 allowed SDSU to finish one-two in those events.
In the diving, the Aztecs took four of the top six place (of 13 divers) in the one-meter led by Megan Flanagan's second-place score of 216.35. She was followed by teammates Kristen Maurer (3rd - 210.60), Amy Freeberg (5th - 205.25) and Kathleen Heuring (6th - 202.20).
In the three-meter diving, SDSU fared even better by taking four of the top five spots led by event winner Caitlin Atkinson (241.30). Right behind her were Freeberg (3rd - 232.10), Flanagan (4th - 212.80) and Maurer (5th - 211.85).
Up nest fro the Aztecs is the team's final dual meet of the season as it travels across town to face University of San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 3. A victory in that meet would give SDSU its most dual meet wins since the 2001-02 campaign.
