SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior midfielder Raul Bautista (Salida, Calif./Grace Davis HS) has been selected by Chivas USA in the second round of the 2007 Major League Supplemental Draft, held Thursday afternoon. Bautista was picked 24th out of the 52 players selected in the supplemental draft.
Bautista became the second Aztec picked by an MLS team in less then a week after senior Tally Hall was chosen in the fourth round of the MLS Super Draft by the Los Angeles Galaxy on Friday. Last year, former SDSU standout Matt Couch was selected in the fourth round by the Galaxy in the MLS supplemental draft.
Bautista, a tri-captain, started all 16 games he appeared in 2006 and tied for fifth on the squad with six points on two goals and two assists. Bautista, who earned head coach Lev Kirshner's Man of the Match honors a team-high five times last season, was named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 3.
He also received Soccer America Team of the Week honors on Oct. 4 and was named to the USD/San Diego State Soccer Classic All-Tournament team in September.
