AZTECS RETURN HOME FOR FINAL THREE MATCHES
***San Diego State returns home this weekend where it will conclude its regular season with three straight home matches.
***The Aztecs begin the home stand with a contest against Colorado State on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7:00 p.m. (PST) in Peterson Gym.
***Two days later (Sunday, Nov. 12), SDSU will take on Air Force in a noon match-up in Peterson Gym.
***SDSU concludes it regular season next week with a match vs. UNLV on Friday, Nov. 17.
SERIES RECORD
***San Diego State is 14-19 in its series vs. Colorado State. The teams first met at the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national championship tournament in Santa Barbara in 1980. Three years later they faced off in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Aztecs ended an eight-match losing streak at the hands of the Rams when they defeated CSU, 3-0, in Peterson Gym in November 2002. SDSU has dropped its last eight matches (and 16 of the last 17) against the Rams, including a 3-1 decision in Fort Collins in mid-October.
***San Diego State holds an 18-1 mark in its previous 19 meetings with Air Force. The teams first met in 1996 while both were members of the Western Athletic Conference. Prior to that season, the Falcons had competed in the Colorado Athletic Conference with 1996 being their first year as a member of Division I. Air Force's lone win over SDSU came in Colorado Springs in 1999. San Diego State has won the last 14 meetings between the teams including a 3-0 victory in Colorado Springs last month. Air Force's lone win in the series came in 1999 in Colorado Springs.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
***Colorado State enters the week on an 11-match win streak with a record of 16-6 overall (10-2 MWC). The Rams are led by Jaime Strauss (3.39 kpg, 2.49 dpg) and Mekana Barnes (2.97 kpg, 1.00 bpg). Tessa Nelson averages 1.23 blocks per game. The Rams lead the league in kills and assists in conference matches, and they are second in opponent hitting percentage.
***Air Force enters the week with an overall record of 3-20 and a league mark of 0-12. The Falcons will visit UNLV on Friday prior to facing the Aztecs. Air Force is led offensively by outside hitters Kristina Stewart (2.06 kpg, 2.27 dpg) and Katie Batchelder (2.62 kpg, 2.05 dpg). Libero Jaclyn Fleming is averaging a team-leading 3.68 digs per game.
HEAD COACH Mark Warner
***San Diego State head coach Mark Warner is in his 12th season at the helm of the Aztec women's program. His career record over that span stands at 187-176 (.515).
***Over the past 11 years, Warner has led his teams to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths and a Western Athletic Conference championship. His tutelage has produced 15 all-conference players and he was named the Mountain West Conference co-coach of the year in 2002.
MOST RECENTLY
***In its lone match last weekend (Saturday, Nov. 4), San Diego State dropped a four-game decision at Wyoming by scores of 23-30, 25-30, 30-23, 23-30.
***Stephanie Darnall led the Aztecs with 15 kills and added 17 digs while middle blocker Lindsey Mahan had 13 kills and five blocks. In addition, senior Melanie Greene and Audra Dent chipped in with 12 and 11 kills respectively.
MAHAN CONTINUES SOLID PLAY
***A week after setting a career high in kills with 14 vs. TCU (Oct. 29), junior middle blocker Lindsey Mahan came within one of matching that number with 13 kills in last Saturday's match at Wyoming.
***Mahan's previous high as an Aztec was a dozen kills, a mark she accomplished against TCU last season in Peterson Gym.
***Over the last three matches, she is averaging 3.30 kills and 1.10 blocks per game. She is hitting .453 over that span with just four attack errors over 10 games.
***Mahan also had five blocks at Wyoming for the second match in a row. Her six blocks (one solo, five assists) at BYU on Oct. 21 was her personal best in 2006.
CORDEIRO DIGGIN' IT
***Aime Cordeiro had 25 digs in last weekend's match to bring her career total to 1,215.
***That number puts her in third place on the SDSU career list in that category.
***She is only the seventh player in SDSU history to reach the 1,000-dig plateau in her career.
***She needs to record 154 more digs to reach the number-two spot currently occupied by Juliana Cezar (1,369 digs; 1993-96).
***Cordeiro's 2006 season total is 472 digs, the third-most ever in a season by an Aztec. With at least four matches remaining (including the MWC tournament), she needs to average 18.3 digs per match to break the school record of 475 digs in a season set by Jackie Mendez in 1988.
***Cordeiro continues to lead the Mountain West Conference in digs both in all matches at 5.49 dpg and she is second in league-game only statistics (5.24 dpg).
***She also ranks sixth in service aces in the overall league stats at 0.34 per game. She recorded a career-best seven aces in the match at Oregon in early September.
WAHLIN ON THE BLOCK
***Over the past four matches, junior Kelley Wahlin is averaging 1.81 bpg (29 blocks in 16 games).
***She continues to rank among the top 10 blockers in the Mountain West Conference. She ranks fourth in the MWC overall stats this week (1.40 bpg) as well as fourth in league matches only (1.42 bpg).
***She set a career high with 15 kills in the win over Wyoming on Oct. 5. Her previous best was eight kills in a match, which she has done on three occasions this season.
***Her 10 kills against New Mexico on Oct. 27 was her second-best effort as an Aztec.
***Wahlin's 10 total blocks (2 solo, 8 assists) at Oregon on Sept. 9 was a career high and is also the best for an Aztec in 2006.
***Her current .293 hitting percentage overall is the ninth-best mark in the MWC while her .329 mark in league contests ranks sixth this week.
GREENE LEADS OFFENSE
***With a dozen kills last Saturday at Wyoming, Melanie Greene has reached double figures in kills in 22 of SDSU's 25 matches this season.
***Her 19 kills against TCU on Oct. 29 tied for the most by an Aztec in 2006 and was her second 19-kill effort of the season. She also had 19 kills at Oregon State in early September.
***The 19 kills was one shy of her career best of 20, set last season in a match at Cleveland State.
***She continues to lead SDSU in kills (3.76 kpg) and is third in digs (2.59 dpg).
***Greene has led San Diego State in kills in 15 matches this season including nine of the last 12.
***Her 3.76 kpg average overall ranks fifth in the Mountain West Conference this week, while her mark of 3.76 kpg in league play is fourth.
***Greene has a team-leading nine double-doubles (kills-digs).
DENT SOLID ALL-AROUND
***Audra Dent has been in double figures in kills in seven of SDSU's last eight contests.
***Her average of 4.08 points per game in all matches is the seventh-best mark in the league entering the week.
***Dent recorded a personal season-best 18 kills vs. Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 16 and followed that with 15 vs. BYU on Sept. 21.
***She is averaging over three (3.24) kills per game in all matches to rank 10th in the MWC this week.
***Her 114 digs this fall surpasses her previous three-year total of 72. She is averaging 1.27 dpg after coming into the season with a 0.35 dpg career mark.
***Her 15 digs in the match at Colorado State on Oct. 14 was a career best.
CASTILLO MOVIN' UP
***Setter Kristin Castillo enters the week with a total of 1,948 assists in her three seasons as an Aztec and has moved into the number-six spot on the San Diego State career list.
***She needs 291 more to take over the number-five spot currently occupied by Melissa Stokes (2,239 from 1986-88).
***With 52 more assists, she will become only the sixth SDSU player to reach the 2,000 plateau in that stat category.
DARNALL DOUBLES UP
***Freshman outside hitter Stephanie Darnall recorded her eighth double-double of 2006 with 15 kills and 17 digs at Wyoming last weekend.
***Her .345 hitting percentage in that match was her third-highest mark of the season and best since Sept. 2 when she hit .435 at Syracuse.
***Her four blocks at Wyoming tied her season best set at Oregon on Sept. 9.
***She is second on the squad in kill average (3.32 kpg) and second in digs (2.91 dpg).
***Her overall kill average ranks ninth in the conference this week while her mark of 3.35 kpg in MWC matches ranks seventh.
***Darnall's dig average of 3.09 per game in conference matches is eighth-best in the league this week.
LATHROP SETS IT UP
***Setter Leah Lathrop recorded her third double-double of the year with 51 assists and 15 digs at Wyoming last weekend.
***Her 15 digs in that match was a career high for the second-year Aztec.
***Lathrop ranks fourth in this week's MWC league stats in service aces with an average of 0.34 per game.
***Her average of 9.99 assists per game is seventh in the MWC this week.
AZTEC NOTES
***The Aztecs had four players finish in double figures in kills for the fourth match in a row at Wyoming last Saturday. Overall, it was sixth time that has occurred this fall.
***Seniors Melanie Greene and Audra Dent are the only two Aztecs to start every match this season.
***Bailee Hellwig ranks 10th in the conference overall blocking stats with an average of 1.11 bpg.
***Hellwig's .583 attack percentage at Wyoming was the best by an Aztec this season (minimum of 12 attempts).
