COLUMBUS, Ohio - San Diego State's fourth-seeded doubles team of Markus Dickhardt (Marburg, Germany) and Christian Groh (Crailsheim, Germany) were defeated in the quarterfinals at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio. Dickhardt and Groh, who are ranked at No. 21 in the preseason ITA doubles rankings, were defeated by No. 28 James Cluskey and Ken Skupski of Louisiana State, 9-7.
The Aztec tandem finishes the fall season with a 4-1 record as a doubles team. The two reached the semifinals of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships in early October, but were was forced to withdraw before the match due to injury.
Dickhardt and Groh were the first Aztec team to reach the Indoor Championships since Oliver Maiberger and Ryan Redondo reached the quarterfinals in 2002. Redondo and Maiberger were attempting to become the first doubles team to win the tournament in back-to-back years, after having won it in 2001.
The San Diego State men's tennis squad will begin its spring schedule on Jan. 12 with the first day of the Aztec Invitational.
