SAN DIEGO (AP) - Kyle Spain tied his career high with 18 points and Brandon Heath added 13 as San Diego State continued its best start in 22 years with a 79-45 win over UC Riverside Tuesday night.
Spain hit all six field goal attempts, including a 3-pointer, and was also 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
San Diego State (6-0) is off to its best start since the 1984 squad began the season with eight straight wins.
Henrik Thomsen led the Highlanders (3-3) with 13 points and Justin Bell had 12.
The Aztecs turned the game into a rout in the early minutes with 15 unanswered points. Thomsen hit a 3-pointer 15 seconds into the game to UC Riverside the lead. But San Diego State took control as Jerome Habel had a pair of 3-point plays and Spain made two baskets during the run.
The lead expanded to 26-8 with 11 minutes left in the half and San Diego State led 45-20 at halftime. The Aztecs shot 65.4 percent from the field and held a 20-9 rebound edge in the first 20 minutes.
Heath scored in double figures in his 31st straight game.
UC Riverside's Benoit Bekono was taken off the court on a gurney with 1:25 left in the game after suffering a right knee injury.
