SDSU head coach Steve Fisher
On the game:
"I thought we got a little fatigued at the end. For whatever reason I thought we shot the ball too quickly. They got hot and made a couple (of threes) and next thing you know we are playing too fast and trying too hard."
On Point Loma Nazarene:
"They will have a very, very good team at their level. But that's why we play these games. I think it will be very good for us."
On Mohamed Abukar's conditioning:
"He went from mid-March to mid-September where he did nothing. He's fighting through stuff. I let him decide how much he could play. I probably let him play a little too much. We just need to get him in shape and everything will work out."
On Point Loma Nazarene's Matt Benson:
"He got hot in the second half. One of his shots was in the cheap seats. We got a little fatigued there at the end defensively. He was really feeling it."
Senior guard Brandon Heath
On Point Loma Nazarene:
"(Point Loma Nazarene) was a good team. They shot the ball exceptionally well. We'll take that as a learning experience. Like coach said, we need to play hard for 40 minutes. We'll go in (tomorrow), watch film and learn from our mistakes."
On his big three-pointer with 1:18 remaining in the second half:
"It was a big shot. My teammates did a great job of getting me the ball. I just wanted to take advantage of the opportunity."
Senior forward Mohamed Abukar
On how he felt in the game:
"I felt good but I'm tired. I was a little fatigued. It was good for me to get up and down the floor. I'll work hard on my conditioning, get back out there tomorrow and keep working. "
Point Loma Nazarene Head Coach Art Wilmore
On San Diego State:
"Coach Fisher has a great team and with the backcourt duo of Richie Williams and Brandon Heath the Aztecs have a great season ahead of them. We'll be rooting for them throughout the season."
On SDSU's Brandon Heath:
"He's a great kid to have on your team - a hard-nosed competitor. Just when you think he is having an off night, he finds a way to go to the post like (Michael) Jordan and score points from the field or get to the free-throw line for some easy points."
On the game:
"Going into the locker room with a 15-point deficit at halftime was a challenge for our team. I told them we could compete with the Aztecs and we played the second half believing we could play with them. It made for a well-played game from both teams. We look forward to continue to play SDSU - it's a great opportunity for us and the games have been exciting."
