ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Aztec freshman Achim Ceban took first place in the singles "A" flight at the 2006 Balloon Fiesta Classic hosted by the University of New Mexico. The newest member on the Aztec squad defeated the tournament's No. 1 seed Graeme Kassautzki in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
In the singles "B" flight finals, redshirt freshman Michael Beron (San Diego, Calif.) defeated Kyle Barrett of Northern Colorado in straight sets, 6-0, 7-6, to take home first place in the "B" flight.
Senior Anthony Gomez (Palm Desert, Calif.) defeated Arizona's Alex Labrosse, 7-6, 7-5, in his match in the consolation singles bracket. As a squad, the Aztecs only lost one singles match in the tournament.
The Aztec men's tennis squad will be back in action at the ITA Western Championships Oct. 19-24.
