TULSA, Okla. - San Diego State seniors Markus Dickhardt (Marburg, Germany) and Christian Groh (Crailsheim, Germany) lost their third-round singles qualifying matches on Wednesday at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships. Dickhardt and Groh have now been eliminated from singles play, but will play in the first round of the doubles main draw.
Tennessee's Kaden Hensel defeated Groh, who is ranked No. 67 in the preseason ITA singles rankings, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, while Philippe Frayssinoux of Mississippi State beat No. 99 Dickhardt in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
In the first round of the doubles main draw, the No. 21 tandem of Dickhardt and Groh will play No. 19 Martin Stiegwardt and Anze Cevka of Georgia State. This will be the second year in a row that Groh and Dickhardt will compete as a team at the All-American Championships. Last season, the twosome fell in the third round of the doubles qualifying to Duke's Joey Atas and Jonathan Stokke, 8-4. In four career doubles matches, the Aztec duo is 3-1.
The first round of the doubles main draw begins Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
