GREELEY, Colo. - A two-week hiatus after its first meet of the season had little effect on the San Diego State swimming and diving team as it rolled to a pair of wins in a double dual meet hosted by Northern Colorado Friday evening. The Aztecs defeated the host side, 132.5-110.5, as well as Boise State (204-29) to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Two SDSU athletes turned in a pair of first-place finishes to lead the way. Sophomore diver Kathleen Heuring, coming off an injury-caused redshirt season, won both the one- and three-meter diving events with point total of 240.80 and 245.40 in those respective events.
In addition, freshman Christine Graham won both the 100 freestyle in a time of 53.65 and the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:09.52. She also finished fifth in the 50 freestyle (26.01), just .25 second behind the winning time.
San Diego State got out of the blocks quickly as junior Brittany Daly (10:50.81), senior Emily Parker (10:52.78) and sophomore Rosalie Raymond (10:05.09) gave the Aztec a sweep in the 100 freestyle. Later, Raymond and Daly went one-two in the 500 free with times of 5:17.50 and 5:18.81. Daly also took second in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.91.
Elsewhere, SDSU got first place finishes from freshman Kyla Power in the 400 individual medley (4:48.76) and soph Katie Leahy in the 100 backstroke (1:00.48).
The Aztecs have little time to rest as they will now move over to Fort Collins for a quadruple dual event featuring Colorado State, Air Force and New Mexico as all four schools open their Mountain West Conference season. That meet will take place on Saturday (Oct. 28) at noon (MDT).
