SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team used timely scoring and solid goalkeeper to shut out Creighton, 2-0, at SDSU Sports Deck on Friday. The Aztecs improved to 4-4 with the win, while the Bluejays, who advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2005, fell to 3-4-1.

Junior co-captain Jessica Girdner got SDSU on the scoreboard in the 11th minute off a corner kick. In a designed play, sophomore Erika Sutton and Jen Mello passed the ball back and forth on the left side of the field before Sutton sent a cross in front of the net. Girdner raced to the ball and tapped it into the left corner of the net for her first goal of the season.

Creighton had a chance to tie the game in the 20th minute when Jordan Bruch was found all alone inside the penalty box. Aztec goalkeeper Cat Burson, however, was able to deflect the shot to the right where an SDSU defender cleared it out of harm's way.

Freshman Cat Walker made it 2-0 Aztecs at the 33:48 mark off a free kick by Sutton. Sutton crossed a pass from the left side and Walker one-touched the ball into the right corner, beating Bluejays' goalkeeper Kristen Casey. The tally was the second of the season for Walker.

Creighton had a good opportunity to climb within one goal in the 65th minute when Kristine Willrett headed a shot attempt toward the upper-part of the net. Burson came up big once again for the Aztecs and pushed the ball over the net to preserve the shutout.

Burson made four saves in 73:32 before being relieved by redshirt freshman Jill Foss. Foss, playing in her first career collegiate match, stopped one shot in the final 16:28.

Sutton, Walker and freshman Heather Vandevanter had three shots apiece for SDSU.

The Aztecs travel to Cal Poly for a match at 1 p.m. Sunday.
