WALNUT, Calif. - Freshman Shana Solomon recorded an NCAA regional qualifying time in the 100 meters, while fellow classmate Nicole Stone captured first place in the 400 to lead the San Diego State track and field team on Saturday at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. The Aztecs also received a season-best performance from senior Erin Asay in the pole vault on the final day of action at Mt. San Antonio College.

"All in all I was pleased with everyone's effort," said SDSU assistant coach Jennifer Nanista. "We set a lot of personal bests over the weekend against some really tough competition, and I think that speaks volumes."

Solomon became the ninth Aztec this season to individually qualify for the regional meet after logging a personal-best effort in the university/open section of the 100 with a time of 11.72, which ties her for seventh place on the school's all-time list.

Stone claimed her second event title in as many days with a season-best clocking of 55.00 in the Olympic development division of the 400. Teammates Larnie Boyd and Corri Campbell-Fell also competed in the race, placing third (55.54) and sixth (58.27), respectively.

Asay, meanwhile, improved on her regional qualifying mark in the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 13-2.25, finishing in a seventh-place tie in the invitational section.

In relay action, SDSU's 4x100 relay team of Stone, Solomon, Kristin Olafsdottir, and Sherraine Pencil posted a season-best as well, placing third with a time of 46.49. Stone, Boyd and Pencil also combined with Mandy Upuu on the Aztecs' third-place 4x400 relay team, which recorded its second regional qualifying time of the season with a 3:41.42 clocking.

SDSU returns to action next weekend when it invades La Jolla to compete in the UCSD Triton Invitational April 21-22 on the campus of UC San Diego.
