SAN DIEGO - Seventh-ranked San Diego State overpowered both Pacific and Occidental College in a Saturday doubleheader at The Salvation Army Kroc Center. In the first match of the day against UOP, the Aztecs used a balanced attack to post a 24-5 victory. In the afternoon match, SDSU picked up where it left off in defeating Occidental, 17-6. With the pair of wins, San Diego State improves to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.

Against Pacific, the Aztecs jumped on the Tigers from the opening sprint as Becca Ur scored two goals in the game's first 1:02 to give SDSU a 2-0 lead. The scoring did not stop there as the Aztecs went on to post four more goals before UOP dented the scoreboard. When it was all said and done, SDSU found itself with a 10-2 advantage after the contest's first seven minutes.

The second quarter featured fewer goals, but a stifling Aztec defense held the Tigers scoreless in the period. SDSU increased its lead to 16-2 thanks to single goals from Anna Gonzales, Jenna Schuster and Erin Lester before Erinn Greenwood scored three consecutive goals to end the half.

The final 14 minutes of the game was highlighted by eight more Aztec goals, including one from goalkeeper Sarah Kilgore (three saves), who played the fourth quarter as a field player. Kilgore's score was the first of her career.

The 24 goals scored are the most in school history and represents just the seventh time in program history that an Aztec team has scored at least 20 goals in a single game. Seventeen of San Diego State's 18 players recorded at least one goal.

In the final match of the day, SDSU hosted Occidental College and put the game away in the first quarter with six goals, including two of Gonzales' game-high five goals.

San Diego State continued its hot shooting, scoring four more times, giving the Aztecs a 10-0 cushion, before Oxy could find the back of the net.

As the game progressed, the scoring slowed, but SDSU still managed to score six goals, while only allowing three to end the game.

In addition to Gonzales' five goals, Elana Cervantes and Greenwood chipped in with two apiece, while Savanah Kelley, Jenna Schuster, Rachel Serna, Susan Stivers, Ashling Taylor, Ur, Stacy Werner and Cassie Zebisch each added one.

Kilgore stopped four shots versus Occidental and Heather Fenske, who played the second half in both games, finished with eight.

The Aztecs return to the Kroc Center for its next game against MPSF foe Long Beach State on Saturday, March 11, at noon.
