SAN DIEGO - Two members of the San Diego State track and field team got an early start to the weekend on Thursday, completing four events in the heptathlon at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz. Freshman Kristin Olafsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) and junior Kristin Karhio (Pacific Grove, Calif.) represented the Aztecs on the first day of competition at the University of Arizona's Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
Competing in her first collegiate heptathlon, Olafsdottir ended the day in sixth place with 2,983 points, behind the leader Jacquelyn Johnson (3,561 pts.) of Arizona State, who claimed the pentathlon title at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this month. Olafsdottir's day was highlighted by a second-place effort in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.53. Karhio, meanwhile, tallied 2,616 points to finish the afternoon in 12th place.
The three remaining heptathlon events will be contested on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. MST.
