SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State track and field team competed in its first full meet of the year on Saturday, winning three events and setting two NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Mountain T's Invitational on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Senior Erin Asay (San Diego, Calif.) captured first place in the pole vault by leaping 13 feet, 5.75 inches, marking the second straight meet in which she has cleared an NCAA provisional qualifying height.
The Aztecs' 4x400 relay team of senior Nicole Carmier (Elk Grove, Calif.), freshman Nicole Stone (Ontario, Calif.), sophomore Sherraine Pencil (Toronto, Canada) and freshman Kristin Olafsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) was also victorious with a clocking of 3 minutes, 51.80 seconds. Carmier, meanwhile, tied for first in the high jump, posting an SDSU indoor career best of 5-6.50.
The Aztecs received impressive performances from several newcomers as well, including freshman Decontee Kaye (Hayward, Calif.) who placed second in the triple jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying effort of 42-2.
Junior transfer Lisa Crampton (Livermore, Calif.) made her SDSU indoor track debut a memorable one by logging a pair of runner-up finishes in the mile (5:19.71) and 3,000 meters (10:57.54), while freshman Shana Watson (Oakland, Calif.) placed third in both the long jump (18-10.50) and triple jump (37-11.25) in her first meet for the scarlet and black.
The Aztecs continue their indoor campaign next Saturday (Feb. 11) when they travel to the Albuquerque Invitational in Albuquerque N.M., The meet, slated to begin at 9 a.m. MST., is SDSU's final tune-up before the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships, scheduled for Feb. 23-25 in Albuquerque.
