Aztecs Set Two School Records On Final Day Of MWC Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The San Diego State swimming and diving team broke two school records on the final day of the Mountain West Conference Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Saturday. The Aztecs finished the four-day meet in ninth place with 176 points, 30 points behind eighth-place Air Force (206), as junior Kimberlee Frith and the 400 freestyle relay team each set school records.

Frith's time of 51.77 seconds in the 100 freestyle preliminaries broke the school record previously set in the 2001-02 season by Heather DeFelice (52.10). She later swam a time of 52.24 in the finals to finish in 15th place.

Frith later teamed with seniors Samantha Peters and Emily Schmied, and junior Stella Karoly to break the 400 free relay record with a time of 3:29.88. The old record was 3:30.43, set by Schmied, Karoly, Hannah Ryan and Caitlin Friedhoff during the 2003-04 season.

In other action, sophomore Katie Smith took 10th in the 200 backstroke en route to the third-fastest time in school history (2:04.71), while Schmied (2:07.76) and Karoly (2:08.91) finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 200 butterfly.

Junior Emily Parker took 12th in the 1,650 free (17:32.90) and freshman Lizette Patterson was 15th in the 200 breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:25.19.
