OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The 800 freestyle relay team of senior Emily Schmied, and juniors Emily Parker, Stella Karoly and Kimberlee Frith set a school record to lead San Diego State on the first day of the Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Wednesday. The Aztecs sit in ninth place with 44 points after day one of the four-day meet, just one point behind Air Force (45) for eighth.

The quartet swam to a time of 7 minutes, 35.25 seconds, more than two seconds faster than the previous record of 7:37.50, set by Megan Storey, Hannah Ryan, Jennifer Graham and Erin Kilpatrick during the 2001-02 season.

In other relay action, Karoly joined senior Samantha Peters and sophomores Katie Smith and Lindsay Hnyda in an eighth-place showing in the 200 medley relay (1:49.47).

SDSU will be back in action tomorrow, beginning with the 500 freestyle at 10 a.m. CT.
