LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Junior Kimberlee Frith won the 200 freestyle in a school-record time of 1 minute, 51.48 seconds to pace the San Diego State swimming and diving team on the second day of the UNLV Winter Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sunday night. An Orange Coast College transfer, Frith's time was 0.48 seconds faster then the previous record set by Laurie Young (1:51.96) in the 1981 season.

After placing fifth in the preliminary heat, Frith raced to an early lead with an opening split of 25.96 seconds. She followed with splits of 28.18, 28.63 and 28.71 to edge a closing Carly Miller (1:51.51) of Rice by three-hundredths of a second. Coming into the meet, Frith's season-best time had been 1:55.27.

Six other Aztecs posted season bests, including freshman Emily Pool's ninth-place time of 1:06.84 in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomores Katie Smith and Lindsay Hnyda were close behind Pool, finishing 11th and 12th, respectively, with season-low times of 1:08.27 and 1:08.29.

Others with top individual times on the season went to freshman Lizette Patterson in the 100 breast (1:09:00 - prelims), junior Emily Parker in the 200 free (1:57.05) and senior Samantha Peters in the 100 backstroke (1:01.14 - prelims).

In relay action, the 200 medley relay of Smith, Pool, junior Stella Karoly and Frith earned a sixth-place clocking of 1:50.23. Later on in the night, Parker, Karoly, senior Emily Schmied and Frith teamed up to set a season-best time of 7:50.25 in the 800 free relay, good enough for ninth place.

SDSU will wrap up day three of the UNLV Winter Invitational Monday, with the preliminary heats set to begin at 10 a.m. and the finals scheduled for 5 p.m.
